About the client

TimeOutdoors is a European leader in the tourist industry and an experienced travel company with years of experience in the industry.

Based in North Yorkshire, it is dedicated to providing comprehensive resources and information for outdoor sports and activities enthusiasts.

Founded in May 2000 by a passionate team of runners, cyclists, and adventurers, TimeOutdoors has grown into a leading company in the tourism industry. The company curates thousands of outdoor events, adventures, and clubs, from local fun runs to challenging athletic endeavors, all under one roof.

Project goals

TimeOutdoors encourages and enables your time outdoors, whatever that might mean to you. From trekking and cycling to adventure races and paddleboarding, they are creating a broad and diverse community of people who want to embrace an active lifestyle outdoors. The primary goal of rebuilding timeoutdoors.com was to increase engagement with adventurers by offering a variety of exciting activities and events. Additionally, the project aimed to improve user experience through personalization and enhanced performance, extend capabilities for business partners, and improve their overall experience.

Key challenge

The project was extensive, involving multiple Kentico features such as customer activity logging, e-commerce functions, marketing automation processes, content personalization, caching, optimization, and advanced routing. Specific challenges included:

  • Setting up processes that allow non-technical users to create and edit content tree pages, manage workflows, and upload media without using Kentico admin applications.
  • Developing a system that combines Kentico content tree-based routing with dynamic routing while maintaining structure.
  • Managing external CDN usage for storing media library content.

Our solutions

Kentico Xperience 13 enables the use of the latest technologies for the development of websites and web solutions. Developers leveraged the newest tooling and APIs introduced by the .NET technology for building ASP.NET Core MVC sites and custom libraries.

E-Commerce features allowed us to easily build shopping cart, orders management, invoices and payments.

Marketing automation in Kentico Xperience 13 made creation and management of the automation processes intuitive, easy, and reduced the time needed to execute initiatives.

Content personalization allowed us to supply the most relevant offers to the users based on their interests and preferences. ASP.NET Core by default provides much better site speed and performance, but with adding of caching on multiple levels of caching and CDN for delivering of media made it lighting fast.

Result

The new timeoutdoors.com website allows business partners and editors to easily publish and manage their events, adventures, and clubs. Users can effortlessly find information and register for outdoor activities. Post-launch, the site saw a 17% increase in visitors, a 12% rise in sales, and a 21% decrease in bounce rate. Overall performance improved by 15-18%, and Google ranking has been consistently growing.
